Narrative:
We had flown from dfw to tul. We were getting ready for flight back to dfw. FAA inspector entered our cockpit and advised us of an en route check. When he requested our airmen certificates and medical certificates, my first officer told me that his wallet was in his suitcase in dfw. His ATP certificate was in his wallet. The FAA inspector started to ask my first officer questions and made notes. I looked up the procedure in our flight manual to get a replacement temporary document for the first officer and called dispatch from our cockpit. This procedure was followed. My first officer left the cockpit to retrieve out of e-mail a 'tcd' (temporary confirmation document). He returned, showed it to the inspector, who took information from it. We departed. My first officer crew member had flown from dfw to tul without his ATP certificate on him.
