Narrative:
On turning base to final checklist fell down to floor board. After completing turn I retrieved checklist. On short final the engine began to sputter. I applied full throttle and placed carburetor heat back to cold. After one last burst of energy the engine died and I coasted in to land. After rolling to a stop I was pulled onto the ramp and refueled. As I troubleshot the airplane I found the fuel selector to be displaced from the 'on' position by approximately 1 1/2 inches. This could have occurred on retrieving the checklist.
