Narrative:
Maiden, leaseback flight in LR25 under far 91. PIC, PF, sic PNF. We had never flown together before. I was relatively new to jets. The PIC is a high time lear pilot. We were cleared to 13000 ft by sat approach. We were climbing at a high rate. The last time I looked at altimeter it was 10000 ft. I began reading climb checklist. I was working radios. San antonio handed us off to ZHU. I was going to report to hou 'climbing to 13000 ft.' when I noticed we were approaching 14400 ft, I immediately pointed it out. The PIC acknowledged the error and immediately took corrective action. He took over the radio requesting FL230. We got immediate clearance. The PIC was relying on the altitude warning device which failed to give an audio 1000 ft altitude warning. It failed throughout the day. I attempted to give 1000 ft and 500 ft verbal altitude warnings throughout the flight. On the way back to sat from lbb the captain again 'PF' lost 500 ft when assigned at 6000 ft, due to turbulence. We reported to the maintenance facility about the altitude warning device.

Title: FO ON A LR25 TELLS OF AN ALT OVERSHOT BECAUSE OF THE ALT ALERT FAILING TO WARN THE CREW. HE WAS FAIRLY NEW TO JET OPS.
Narrative: MAIDEN, LEASEBACK FLT IN LR25 UNDER FAR 91. PIC, PF, SIC PNF. WE HAD NEVER FLOWN TOGETHER BEFORE. I WAS RELATIVELY NEW TO JETS. THE PIC IS A HIGH TIME LEAR PLT. WE WERE CLRED TO 13000 FT BY SAT APCH. WE WERE CLBING AT A HIGH RATE. THE LAST TIME I LOOKED AT ALTIMETER IT WAS 10000 FT. I BEGAN READING CLB CHKLIST. I WAS WORKING RADIOS. SAN ANTONIO HANDED US OFF TO ZHU. I WAS GOING TO RPT TO HOU 'CLBING TO 13000 FT.' WHEN I NOTICED WE WERE APCHING 14400 FT, I IMMEDIATELY POINTED IT OUT. THE PIC ACKNOWLEDGED THE ERROR AND IMMEDIATELY TOOK CORRECTIVE ACTION. HE TOOK OVER THE RADIO REQUESTING FL230. WE GOT IMMEDIATE CLRNC. THE PIC WAS RELYING ON THE ALT WARNING DEVICE WHICH FAILED TO GIVE AN AUDIO 1000 FT ALT WARNING. IT FAILED THROUGHOUT THE DAY. I ATTEMPTED TO GIVE 1000 FT AND 500 FT VERBAL ALT WARNINGS THROUGHOUT THE FLT. ON THE WAY BACK TO SAT FROM LBB THE CAPT AGAIN 'PF' LOST 500 FT WHEN ASSIGNED AT 6000 FT, DUE TO TURB. WE RPTED TO THE MAINT FACILITY ABOUT THE ALT WARNING DEVICE.
