Narrative:
While taxiing into the gate area our left wingtip contacted a provisioning truck. The truck appeared to be outside of the painted ground clearance lines. Damage was limited to the left wing position light assembly. This incident might have been avoided, provided a wider parking spot was available. Other possible contributing factors were night shadows, glare from parking/ramp lights on the windscreen, a degraded state of painted clearance lines, position of the jetway which hindered the marshaller's view and the provisioning truck's proximity and skewed angle encroaching the zone. Also, painted over old clearance lines either side of the true clearance line could have hindered our true clearance from the provisioning truck.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR MLG HITS ITS L WINGTIP AGAINST A TRUCK PARKED INSIDE THE 'RED ZONE.' THE JETWAY BLOCKED THE MARSHALLER'S VIEW OF THE MISPARKED TRUCK. FADED AREA LINES WERE NOTED.
Narrative: WHILE TAXIING INTO THE GATE AREA OUR L WINGTIP CONTACTED A PROVISIONING TRUCK. THE TRUCK APPEARED TO BE OUTSIDE OF THE PAINTED GND CLRNC LINES. DAMAGE WAS LIMITED TO THE L WING POS LIGHT ASSEMBLY. THIS INCIDENT MIGHT HAVE BEEN AVOIDED, PROVIDED A WIDER PARKING SPOT WAS AVAILABLE. OTHER POSSIBLE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS WERE NIGHT SHADOWS, GLARE FROM PARKING/RAMP LIGHTS ON THE WINDSCREEN, A DEGRADED STATE OF PAINTED CLRNC LINES, POS OF THE JETWAY WHICH HINDERED THE MARSHALLER'S VIEW AND THE PROVISIONING TRUCK'S PROX AND SKEWED ANGLE ENCROACHING THE ZONE. ALSO, PAINTED OVER OLD CLRNC LINES EITHER SIDE OF THE TRUE CLRNC LINE COULD HAVE HINDERED OUR TRUE CLRNC FROM THE PROVISIONING TRUCK.
