Narrative:

While in-flight, approximately 7 hours 40 mins into flight, the purser flight attendant became dizzy, lost feeling and coordination in his left hand and his speech became slurred. The galley flight attendant had him situation down in the first class galley, advised the captain and cockpit crew, and then advised the other cabin flight attendants. A business class flight attendant paged for a doctor while crew prepared to land aircraft. Doctor came and administered medical attention to purser and another flight attendant also brought oxygen. Purser was moved to the crew rest seat where he took oxygen. A business class flight attendant took over the purser responsibilities and made all safety PA's and prepared for landing. Cockpit crew received landing clearance for ord and cabin was ready to land in about 12 mins. United states customs and immigration advised by company and they met the aircraft on arrival. Aircraft landed approximately 23 mins after the event began. Paramedics met the aircraft and provided additional medical assistance. The purser was removed and taken to the hospital in ord. 1 flight attendant also deplaned to stay with purser. Aircraft then continued on to final destination which was dfw. Event was of a medical nature and probable cause was high blood pressure. Event was diagnosed as a stroke. Duration of stroke was approximately 5-7 mins. Purser was never unconscious. Doctor gave purser aspirin and flight attendants administered oxygen. Blood pressure cuff was used. Vital signs for blood pressure were 170 over 100. Cabin altitude was normal at time of incident and no other problems were evident during the flight.

Title: A MEDICAL EMER CREATES THE NEED FOR A LNDG AT ORD FOR A FLT FROM LGW TO DFW.

Narrative: WHILE INFLT, APPROX 7 HRS 40 MINS INTO FLT, THE PURSER FLT ATTENDANT BECAME DIZZY, LOST FEELING AND COORD IN HIS L HAND AND HIS SPEECH BECAME SLURRED. THE GALLEY FLT ATTENDANT HAD HIM SIT DOWN IN THE FIRST CLASS GALLEY, ADVISED THE CAPT AND COCKPIT CREW, AND THEN ADVISED THE OTHER CABIN FLT ATTENDANTS. A BUSINESS CLASS FLT ATTENDANT PAGED FOR A DOCTOR WHILE CREW PREPARED TO LAND ACFT. DOCTOR CAME AND ADMINISTERED MEDICAL ATTN TO PURSER AND ANOTHER FLT ATTENDANT ALSO BROUGHT OXYGEN. PURSER WAS MOVED TO THE CREW REST SEAT WHERE HE TOOK OXYGEN. A BUSINESS CLASS FLT ATTENDANT TOOK OVER THE PURSER RESPONSIBILITIES AND MADE ALL SAFETY PA'S AND PREPARED FOR LNDG. COCKPIT CREW RECEIVED LNDG CLRNC FOR ORD AND CABIN WAS READY TO LAND IN ABOUT 12 MINS. UNITED STATES CUSTOMS AND IMMIGRATION ADVISED BY COMPANY AND THEY MET THE ACFT ON ARR. ACFT LANDED APPROX 23 MINS AFTER THE EVENT BEGAN. PARAMEDICS MET THE ACFT AND PROVIDED ADDITIONAL MEDICAL ASSISTANCE. THE PURSER WAS REMOVED AND TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL IN ORD. 1 FLT ATTENDANT ALSO DEPLANED TO STAY WITH PURSER. ACFT THEN CONTINUED ON TO FINAL DEST WHICH WAS DFW. EVENT WAS OF A MEDICAL NATURE AND PROBABLE CAUSE WAS HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. EVENT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A STROKE. DURATION OF STROKE WAS APPROX 5-7 MINS. PURSER WAS NEVER UNCONSCIOUS. DOCTOR GAVE PURSER ASPIRIN AND FLT ATTENDANTS ADMINISTERED OXYGEN. BLOOD PRESSURE CUFF WAS USED. VITAL SIGNS FOR BLOOD PRESSURE WERE 170 OVER 100. CABIN ALT WAS NORMAL AT TIME OF INCIDENT AND NO OTHER PROBS WERE EVIDENT DURING THE FLT.
