Narrative:
After 40 mins of holding, deviating and vectoring, ATC cleared us from our holding pattern by stating that we were reclred to atl via radar vectors, fly present heading. A short time later, approach re-cleared us back to lgc VOR. We both had tuned atl VOR since we were no longer on any arrival. When ATC gave us clearance back to lgc we incorrectly flew toward atl. We were not aware of the mistake until approach questioned us. At that time we were 13 mi north of lgc. A vector was provided back to the lgc arrival. We were not aware of any traffic conflict.
