Narrative:
We were rapidly approaching cak, an unfamiliar airport. We were cleared for visual approach to runway 23. After the captain and I agreed, we confirmed we had cak in sight. During the preceding time period, I set up radios for ILS to runway 23 and captain called for before landing checklist. At this time my situational awareness was inside the cockpit to bring up checklist on mfd with the FMS. After completing checklist, I looked outside on a 1/2 mi final to runway 19. At this point I didn't realize a turn was made to runway 19 instead of runway 23. On short final cak tower cleared us to land on runway 19 and we accepted the clearance. Factors affecting the flight include first time working together as a crew, and even though operating with SOP's, the captain should have used ILS localizer to backup approach to runway 23. Copilot should have verified approach to correct runway. This was my (first officer) first flight in a C560 with the company.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A C560 FLC MADE A VISUAL APCH TO THE WRONG RWY. THE ATCT LCL CTLR INTERVENED AND CLRED THE FLC TO LAND ON THE RWY THAT THEY WERE APCHING.
Narrative: WE WERE RAPIDLY APCHING CAK, AN UNFAMILIAR ARPT. WE WERE CLRED FOR VISUAL APCH TO RWY 23. AFTER THE CAPT AND I AGREED, WE CONFIRMED WE HAD CAK IN SIGHT. DURING THE PRECEDING TIME PERIOD, I SET UP RADIOS FOR ILS TO RWY 23 AND CAPT CALLED FOR BEFORE LNDG CHKLIST. AT THIS TIME MY SITUATIONAL AWARENESS WAS INSIDE THE COCKPIT TO BRING UP CHKLIST ON MFD WITH THE FMS. AFTER COMPLETING CHKLIST, I LOOKED OUTSIDE ON A 1/2 MI FINAL TO RWY 19. AT THIS POINT I DIDN'T REALIZE A TURN WAS MADE TO RWY 19 INSTEAD OF RWY 23. ON SHORT FINAL CAK TWR CLRED US TO LAND ON RWY 19 AND WE ACCEPTED THE CLRNC. FACTORS AFFECTING THE FLT INCLUDE FIRST TIME WORKING TOGETHER AS A CREW, AND EVEN THOUGH OPERATING WITH SOP'S, THE CAPT SHOULD HAVE USED ILS LOC TO BACKUP APCH TO RWY 23. COPLT SHOULD HAVE VERIFIED APCH TO CORRECT RWY. THIS WAS MY (FO) FIRST FLT IN A C560 WITH THE COMPANY.
