Narrative:

While being handled by yyz approach control, at FL220, we were cleared to '17000 ft profile descent runway 24,' through FL180. We were further cleared to 11000 ft. Reached 11000 ft 5 mi southwest of ywt VOR. After passing ywt VOR, prior to guelf intersection, we were questioned about our altitude, at which point we were informed that 'you were cleared the profile descent,' which requires crossing ywt VOR between 17000 ft and 13000 ft. Prior to ATC questioning us about our altitude we had a TA with no altitude readout and distance no less than 5 mi. Upon receiving the clearance to 11000 ft we assumed that the altitude restrs in the profile descent were eliminated at ywt VOR. Most of our airports we serve do not (utilize) profile dscnts. Normally, when we receive an altitude assignment, if there are any other restrs, prior to the assigned altitude, it is verbally given to us by the controller. I feel that our assumption on the profile descent procedure was hampered by the fact that we were operating under a reduced rest overnight and on the last day of a 3 day trip.

Title: CAPT OF AN ACR MDT JET FAILS TO MAKE XING RESTR ALTS AFTER BEING CLRED TO A LOWER ALT ON A PROFILE DSCNT. HE BELIEVED THAT THE XING RESTR ALTS HAD BEEN ELIMINATED AFTER RECEIVING THE AMENDED CLRNC TO A LOWER ALT AND NOT BEING ADVISED THAT THEY STILL APPLIED.

Narrative: WHILE BEING HANDLED BY YYZ APCH CTL, AT FL220, WE WERE CLRED TO '17000 FT PROFILE DSCNT RWY 24,' THROUGH FL180. WE WERE FURTHER CLRED TO 11000 FT. REACHED 11000 FT 5 MI SW OF YWT VOR. AFTER PASSING YWT VOR, PRIOR TO GUELF INTXN, WE WERE QUESTIONED ABOUT OUR ALT, AT WHICH POINT WE WERE INFORMED THAT 'YOU WERE CLRED THE PROFILE DSCNT,' WHICH REQUIRES XING YWT VOR BTWN 17000 FT AND 13000 FT. UPON RECEIVING THE CLRNC TO 11000 FT WE ASSUMED THAT THE ALT RESTRS IN THE PROFILE DSCNT WERE ELIMINATED AT YWT VOR. MOST OF OUR ARPTS WE SERVE DO NOT (UTILIZE) PROFILE DSCNTS. NORMALLY, WHEN WE RECEIVE AN ALT ASSIGNMENT, IF THERE ARE ANY OTHER RESTRS, PRIOR TO THE ASSIGNED ALT, IT IS VERBALLY GIVEN TO US BY THE CTLR. I FEEL THAT OUR ASSUMPTION ON THE PROFILE DSCNT PROC WAS HAMPERED BY THE FACT THAT WE WERE OPERATING UNDER A REDUCED REST OVERNIGHT AND ON THE LAST DAY OF A 3 DAY TRIP.
