Narrative:

In sum: a DC9-30 captain crossed runway 30L at stl by mistake, without clearance. 4 airplanes and 6 people were involved in this runway incursion. X DC9-30 incursion aircraft. Y DC9-30 misidented by ground control as an MD80. Z B737 aircraft same air carrier as aircraft xx. Xx B737 aircraft same air carrier as aircraft Z. Sequence of events: ground control issues confusing taxi instructions to aircraft X. He is told to give way to an MD80 exiting runway 30L, left to right ahead. Aircraft is actually a DC9-30. This causes cockpit confusion as the crew tries to understand where the MD80 is. When crew gets this figured out they are told to follow designated air carrier. In fact there are 2 designated air carrier aircraft, both the same company. Captain starts to follow second company air carrier which causes left turn across runway 30L. Controller had issued right turn instructions. Construction has caused closure of taxiway P between taxiway right and south. This was noted on the airport ATIS, but not noted on any NOTAM and no airport construction page (10-8) was issued. This closure caused a non standard departure taxi procedure which was not adequately disseminated. First officer of incursion aircraft had trouble finding taxiway D on airport page due to cluttered airport map (10-9) for stl. Contributing were controller workload and frequency congestion.

Title: DC9-30 CREW HAD A RWY INCURSION, RWY 30L, STL. THE GND CTLR ISSUED NON ROUTINE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS BECAUSE OF A CLOSED TXWY. WHEN UNDERWAY CTLR TOLD THEM TO GIVE WAY TO AN MD80. COCKPIT CONFUSION RESULTED BECAUSE ACFT WAS ACTUALLY A DC9-30. TOLD TO FOLLOW A XXX AIRLINES B737. ADDITIONAL CONFUSION RESULTED BECAUSE THE CREW DID NOT KNOW THERE WERE 2 XXX AIRLINES B737'S TAXIING.

Narrative: IN SUM: A DC9-30 CAPT CROSSED RWY 30L AT STL BY MISTAKE, WITHOUT CLRNC. 4 AIRPLANES AND 6 PEOPLE WERE INVOLVED IN THIS RWY INCURSION. X DC9-30 INCURSION ACFT. Y DC9-30 MISIDENTED BY GND CTL AS AN MD80. Z B737 ACFT SAME ACR AS ACFT XX. XX B737 ACFT SAME ACR AS ACFT Z. SEQUENCE OF EVENTS: GND CTL ISSUES CONFUSING TAXI INSTRUCTIONS TO ACFT X. HE IS TOLD TO GIVE WAY TO AN MD80 EXITING RWY 30L, L TO R AHEAD. ACFT IS ACTUALLY A DC9-30. THIS CAUSES COCKPIT CONFUSION AS THE CREW TRIES TO UNDERSTAND WHERE THE MD80 IS. WHEN CREW GETS THIS FIGURED OUT THEY ARE TOLD TO FOLLOW DESIGNATED ACR. IN FACT THERE ARE 2 DESIGNATED ACR ACFT, BOTH THE SAME COMPANY. CAPT STARTS TO FOLLOW SECOND COMPANY ACR WHICH CAUSES L TURN ACROSS RWY 30L. CTLR HAD ISSUED R TURN INSTRUCTIONS. CONSTRUCTION HAS CAUSED CLOSURE OF TXWY P BTWN TXWY R AND S. THIS WAS NOTED ON THE ARPT ATIS, BUT NOT NOTED ON ANY NOTAM AND NO ARPT CONSTRUCTION PAGE (10-8) WAS ISSUED. THIS CLOSURE CAUSED A NON STANDARD DEP TAXI PROC WHICH WAS NOT ADEQUATELY DISSEMINATED. FO OF INCURSION ACFT HAD TROUBLE FINDING TXWY D ON ARPT PAGE DUE TO CLUTTERED ARPT MAP (10-9) FOR STL. CONTRIBUTING WERE CTLR WORKLOAD AND FREQ CONGESTION.
