Narrative:

While climbing through FL280 en route to our cruising altitude, the cabin altitude was observed climbing at greater than 2000 FPM. All items on the 'loss of pressurization' hard card were accomplished, but had no effect on regaining control of aircraft pressurization. All items on the 'emergency descent' checklist were accomplished. The aircraft leveled off at 10000 ft and diverted to atl. All passenger oxygen masks deployed during the descent. Maintenance later reported that the clamp holding a duct onto the air conditioning pack water separator had come off and was dumping air overboard rather than into the cabin.

Title: B727 ACFT IN CLB TO CRUISE EXPERIENCED DEPRESSURIZATION, FLC UNABLE TO CTL PRESSURE DECLARED EMER AND DIVERTED TO CLOSE ARPT. POSTFLT REVEALED A CLAMP HOLDING DUCT ONTO AIR CONDITIONING PACK WATER SEPARATOR HAD COME OFF.

Narrative: WHILE CLBING THROUGH FL280 ENRTE TO OUR CRUISING ALT, THE CABIN ALT WAS OBSERVED CLBING AT GREATER THAN 2000 FPM. ALL ITEMS ON THE 'LOSS OF PRESSURIZATION' HARD CARD WERE ACCOMPLISHED, BUT HAD NO EFFECT ON REGAINING CTL OF ACFT PRESSURIZATION. ALL ITEMS ON THE 'EMER DSCNT' CHKLIST WERE ACCOMPLISHED. THE ACFT LEVELED OFF AT 10000 FT AND DIVERTED TO ATL. ALL PAX OXYGEN MASKS DEPLOYED DURING THE DSCNT. MAINT LATER RPTED THAT THE CLAMP HOLDING A DUCT ONTO THE AIR CONDITIONING PACK WATER SEPARATOR HAD COME OFF AND WAS DUMPING AIR OVERBOARD RATHER THAN INTO THE CABIN.
