Narrative:
We were making left traffic for runway 16L when the controller announced he would call out base leg. We extended for approximately 4 mi when he called and gave us a transponder code other than the VFR code we had been squawking. I responded that we were on an 'extended' downwind to runway 16L. He then cleared us to land. While on final I looked to the right to determine the whereabouts of a T28 that was in the right pattern for runway 16R. To my surprise I saw him proceeding straight for us at the same altitude and on a collision path. He was well past his final approach corridor and encroaching upon mine. He appeared not to see us and I was uncertain of his intentions. As the gap closed, I took evasive action and dove to my right in order to pass under him. Simultaneously as we dove, I noticed the plane begin a bank to the right. I remember looking straight up at his gear and noting they were down and locked. We ended up approximately 200 ft AGL in the final approach corridor for runway 16R. When my student had visual contact with the T28 we turned back for runway 16L and landed.

Title: ON TURNING FINAL FOR RWY 16L AT RNO, ACFT X HAD AN NMAC WITH ACFT Y THAT HAD OVERSHOT THE FINAL FOR RWY 16R.
Narrative: WE WERE MAKING L TFC FOR RWY 16L WHEN THE CTLR ANNOUNCED HE WOULD CALL OUT BASE LEG. WE EXTENDED FOR APPROX 4 MI WHEN HE CALLED AND GAVE US A XPONDER CODE OTHER THAN THE VFR CODE WE HAD BEEN SQUAWKING. I RESPONDED THAT WE WERE ON AN 'EXTENDED' DOWNWIND TO RWY 16L. HE THEN CLRED US TO LAND. WHILE ON FINAL I LOOKED TO THE R TO DETERMINE THE WHEREABOUTS OF A T28 THAT WAS IN THE R PATTERN FOR RWY 16R. TO MY SURPRISE I SAW HIM PROCEEDING STRAIGHT FOR US AT THE SAME ALT AND ON A COLLISION PATH. HE WAS WELL PAST HIS FINAL APCH CORRIDOR AND ENCROACHING UPON MINE. HE APPEARED NOT TO SEE US AND I WAS UNCERTAIN OF HIS INTENTIONS. AS THE GAP CLOSED, I TOOK EVASIVE ACTION AND DOVE TO MY R IN ORDER TO PASS UNDER HIM. SIMULTANEOUSLY AS WE DOVE, I NOTICED THE PLANE BEGIN A BANK TO THE R. I REMEMBER LOOKING STRAIGHT UP AT HIS GEAR AND NOTING THEY WERE DOWN AND LOCKED. WE ENDED UP APPROX 200 FT AGL IN THE FINAL APCH CORRIDOR FOR RWY 16R. WHEN MY STUDENT HAD VISUAL CONTACT WITH THE T28 WE TURNED BACK FOR RWY 16L AND LANDED.
