Narrative:
Atlanta approach had us on a left downwind for runway 27L at atl hartsfield at 7000 ft. Abeam the threshold at 7000 ft, we were told by approach control that this would be a 'tight approach,' and then cleared for the visual to runway 27L. The captain was the PF, and he quickly descended, turned, and configured to land. At this point I believe I heard us cleared to land. After landing however, I realized that we were still on approach frequency when approach control told us to contact the tower. Atl tower said 'everything is all right you were cleared to land.' nothing unsafe occurred, but in focusing on making a 'too tight' approach work, we overlooked not switching to tower frequency prior to landing.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ACR B737 FLC CLRED FOR CLOSE-IN VISUAL APCH AND LAND WITHOUT CHANGING TO TWR FREQ FOR LNDG CLRNC. TWR ASSURES FLC THAT A CLRNC TO LAND WAS ISSUED, EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE ON WRONG FREQ.
Narrative: ATLANTA APCH HAD US ON A L DOWNWIND FOR RWY 27L AT ATL HARTSFIELD AT 7000 FT. ABEAM THE THRESHOLD AT 7000 FT, WE WERE TOLD BY APCH CTL THAT THIS WOULD BE A 'TIGHT APCH,' AND THEN CLRED FOR THE VISUAL TO RWY 27L. THE CAPT WAS THE PF, AND HE QUICKLY DSNDED, TURNED, AND CONFIGURED TO LAND. AT THIS POINT I BELIEVE I HEARD US CLRED TO LAND. AFTER LNDG HOWEVER, I REALIZED THAT WE WERE STILL ON APCH FREQ WHEN APCH CTL TOLD US TO CONTACT THE TWR. ATL TWR SAID 'EVERYTHING IS ALL RIGHT YOU WERE CLRED TO LAND.' NOTHING UNSAFE OCCURRED, BUT IN FOCUSING ON MAKING A 'TOO TIGHT' APCH WORK, WE OVERLOOKED NOT SWITCHING TO TWR FREQ PRIOR TO LNDG.
