Narrative:

Began takeoff runway 18L. At approximately 40 KIAS power was in the process of being set and a service door light illuminated. The takeoff was discontinued and aircraft turned off the runway. We stopped the aircraft and contacted maintenance for guidance. They indicated that return to the gate to check the security of the doors was prudent. They indicated that a van would come to the gate and inspect the 3 possible doors. They wanted the #2 engine shut down for access to the fuel door and to leave the #1 engine running as the passenger door would not need to be opened. We returned to the gate, secured #2 engine and maintenance found a loose fastener on the fuel door. They resecured the door, told us the reason for the light over the radio, and said we were 'good to go.' we continued the flight to our destination uneventfully. No entry into the maintenance logbook was made. Our operations manual requires a maintenance entry for any mechanical discrepancy, and discrepancy is defined as a mechanical irregularity that causes a malfunction or renders a component or system inoperative.

Title: AN LTT ABORTS THE TKOF ROLL BECAUSE A SVC DOOR OPEN LIGHT ILLUMINATES AT CVG, OH.

Narrative: BEGAN TKOF RWY 18L. AT APPROX 40 KIAS PWR WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING SET AND A SVC DOOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE TKOF WAS DISCONTINUED AND ACFT TURNED OFF THE RWY. WE STOPPED THE ACFT AND CONTACTED MAINT FOR GUIDANCE. THEY INDICATED THAT RETURN TO THE GATE TO CHK THE SECURITY OF THE DOORS WAS PRUDENT. THEY INDICATED THAT A VAN WOULD COME TO THE GATE AND INSPECT THE 3 POSSIBLE DOORS. THEY WANTED THE #2 ENG SHUT DOWN FOR ACCESS TO THE FUEL DOOR AND TO LEAVE THE #1 ENG RUNNING AS THE PAX DOOR WOULD NOT NEED TO BE OPENED. WE RETURNED TO THE GATE, SECURED #2 ENG AND MAINT FOUND A LOOSE FASTENER ON THE FUEL DOOR. THEY RESECURED THE DOOR, TOLD US THE REASON FOR THE LIGHT OVER THE RADIO, AND SAID WE WERE 'GOOD TO GO.' WE CONTINUED THE FLT TO OUR DEST UNEVENTFULLY. NO ENTRY INTO THE MAINT LOGBOOK WAS MADE. OUR OPS MANUAL REQUIRES A MAINT ENTRY FOR ANY MECHANICAL DISCREPANCY, AND DISCREPANCY IS DEFINED AS A MECHANICAL IRREGULARITY THAT CAUSES A MALFUNCTION OR RENDERS A COMPONENT OR SYS INOP.
