Narrative:
I was assigned a reduced duty day which I accepted. The next day the company informed me that I had not been legal to accept the day in question. Upon review of the aircraft logbook, I determined that I had totaled my flight time incorrectly 2 days prior to the occurrence. As a result, I accepted a duty day which was more than 1 hour more than I could legally accept. This could have been prevented in 2 ways: 1) the company could have assigned crew member a legal day as per their records, or 2) discussed the situation with the crew member.
