Narrative:
I was the PF on air carrier XXX on aug/xa/98 from lhr to lax. I had discussed the approach to runway 25L with the relief pilot and was aware of the 'trap' entailed. The WX was VFR and I was cleared for the ILS runway 25L from fuelr intersection. As per my company training and SOP, I selected the approach mode at fuelr -- ergo I was 180 ft low at gaate intersection as reported by the relief pilot. I disconnected the autoplt and flew the rest of the approach manually. I was aware of the pitfalls on this approach but after 12 hours in the cockpit I reverted to my training. No excuse -- I screwed up. However, if lax departure can remind me 3 or 4 times to 'continue the loope restrs' why can't they clear me for the ILS runway 25L approach from fuelr comply with ILS runway 25L restrs? It may jog my feeble memory, especially after a long international flight.

Title: B777 CREW DSNDED ON THE GS. THIS CAUSED A DSCNT 180 FT BELOW THE TUNNEL ARR ALT.
Narrative: I WAS THE PF ON ACR XXX ON AUG/XA/98 FROM LHR TO LAX. I HAD DISCUSSED THE APCH TO RWY 25L WITH THE RELIEF PLT AND WAS AWARE OF THE 'TRAP' ENTAILED. THE WX WAS VFR AND I WAS CLRED FOR THE ILS RWY 25L FROM FUELR INTXN. AS PER MY COMPANY TRAINING AND SOP, I SELECTED THE APCH MODE AT FUELR -- ERGO I WAS 180 FT LOW AT GAATE INTXN AS RPTED BY THE RELIEF PLT. I DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT AND FLEW THE REST OF THE APCH MANUALLY. I WAS AWARE OF THE PITFALLS ON THIS APCH BUT AFTER 12 HRS IN THE COCKPIT I REVERTED TO MY TRAINING. NO EXCUSE -- I SCREWED UP. HOWEVER, IF LAX DEP CAN REMIND ME 3 OR 4 TIMES TO 'CONTINUE THE LOOPE RESTRS' WHY CAN'T THEY CLR ME FOR THE ILS RWY 25L APCH FROM FUELR COMPLY WITH ILS RWY 25L RESTRS? IT MAY JOG MY FEEBLE MEMORY, ESPECIALLY AFTER A LONG INTL FLT.
