Narrative:

In sum: departed rks for den, first officer flying. Center cleared us from 11000 ft to 14000 ft. Captain completed climb checklist and set 14000 ft in the altitude box. Out of 13000 ft in climb, captain called out '1000 ft to go.' captain was then distraction for company radio call. ZLC asked us to confirm our altitude, and the first officer replied, '14000 ft.' a second call from center to confirm our altitude got my attention. We were at 14500 ft, and immediately returned to 14000 ft. Center informed us that we had a conflict with traffic. Our TCASII showed an aircraft at 15000 ft, 5 mi away.

Narrative: IN SUM: DEPARTED RKS FOR DEN, FO FLYING. CTR CLRED US FROM 11000 FT TO 14000 FT. CAPT COMPLETED CLB CHKLIST AND SET 14000 FT IN THE ALT BOX. OUT OF 13000 FT IN CLB, CAPT CALLED OUT '1000 FT TO GO.' CAPT WAS THEN DISTR FOR COMPANY RADIO CALL. ZLC ASKED US TO CONFIRM OUR ALT, AND THE FO REPLIED, '14000 FT.' A SECOND CALL FROM CTR TO CONFIRM OUR ALT GOT MY ATTN. WE WERE AT 14500 FT, AND IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO 14000 FT. CTR INFORMED US THAT WE HAD A CONFLICT WITH TFC. OUR TCASII SHOWED AN ACFT AT 15000 FT, 5 MI AWAY.
