Narrative:
Pre departure clearance listed departure as kennedy seven/breezy point climb (cri 223 degree radial). Tower communications prior to takeoff demonstrated a lack of professionalism and a propensity for unsafe expedition. As #3 for takeoff sequence, tower tried to intimidate a 'water ski' air carrier into taking off too close behind a B747. As #2 for takeoff, the preceding aircraft was cleared to departure control with a 'see ya.' our takeoff clearance provided wind, no runway, and the words 'canarsie climb.' given the previous unprofessional transmission, we assumed that 'canarsie climb' meant cleared to canarsie, climb as filed (ie, breezy point). Shortly after takeoff, en route to cri and while turning out the cri 223 degree radial, departure control issued a 180 degree vector and words to the effect we were west of course. An uneventful climb and radar vector on course ensued. In hindsight only, can assume that the tower's direction for a canarsie climb was in fact what departure control was expecting, ie, cri 176 degree radial, vice cri 223 degree radial.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B757 FLIES THE WRONG CLB DEP PROC OUT OF JFK. CREW HAD RECEIVED A LAST MIN CLB DURING TKOF CLRNC.
Narrative: PDC LISTED DEP AS KENNEDY SEVEN/BREEZY POINT CLB (CRI 223 DEG RADIAL). TWR COMS PRIOR TO TKOF DEMONSTRATED A LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM AND A PROPENSITY FOR UNSAFE EXPEDITION. AS #3 FOR TKOF SEQUENCE, TWR TRIED TO INTIMIDATE A 'WATER SKI' ACR INTO TAKING OFF TOO CLOSE BEHIND A B747. AS #2 FOR TKOF, THE PRECEDING ACFT WAS CLRED TO DEP CTL WITH A 'SEE YA.' OUR TKOF CLRNC PROVIDED WIND, NO RWY, AND THE WORDS 'CANARSIE CLB.' GIVEN THE PREVIOUS UNPROFESSIONAL XMISSION, WE ASSUMED THAT 'CANARSIE CLB' MEANT CLRED TO CANARSIE, CLB AS FILED (IE, BREEZY POINT). SHORTLY AFTER TKOF, ENRTE TO CRI AND WHILE TURNING OUT THE CRI 223 DEG RADIAL, DEP CTL ISSUED A 180 DEG VECTOR AND WORDS TO THE EFFECT WE WERE W OF COURSE. AN UNEVENTFUL CLB AND RADAR VECTOR ON COURSE ENSUED. IN HINDSIGHT ONLY, CAN ASSUME THAT THE TWR'S DIRECTION FOR A CANARSIE CLB WAS IN FACT WHAT DEP CTL WAS EXPECTING, IE, CRI 176 DEG RADIAL, VICE CRI 223 DEG RADIAL.
