Narrative:

During a short field approach to landing, the student, a private instrument pilot, was on speed 69 KIAS and on GS. He started to go below the GS, bringing nose up. I instructed him 3 times to add power, add power, when I noticed he was twisting out (reducing) the throttle instead of in. I reached over to add power. At this time the airplane flap hit the light. I added in full power and did a go around to a full stop landing. We did not retract flaps on go around because the left side was slightly bent. Basically, I feel I let the student go too far. When I told him to add power and he reduced it, I was too late in correcting his actions. I should have added the power myself sooner. The damaged flap has been replaced.

Title: PLT TRAINEE OF A BEECH BE35 LOST CTL OF ACFT DURING LNDG AND STRUCK A RWY LIGHT CAUSING DAMAGE TO ONE OF THE FLAPS. INSTRUCTOR PLT TOOK CTL OF THE ACFT AND MADE A GAR WITHOUT RETRACTING THE FLAPS AND SATISFACTORILY RETURN LAND.

I INSTRUCTED HIM 3 TIMES TO ADD PWR, ADD PWR, WHEN I NOTICED HE WAS TWISTING OUT (REDUCING) THE THROTTLE INSTEAD OF IN. I REACHED OVER TO ADD PWR. AT THIS TIME THE AIRPLANE FLAP HIT THE LIGHT. I ADDED IN FULL PWR AND DID A GAR TO A FULL STOP LNDG. WE DID NOT RETRACT FLAPS ON GAR BECAUSE THE L SIDE WAS SLIGHTLY BENT. BASICALLY, I FEEL I LET THE STUDENT GO TOO FAR. WHEN I TOLD HIM TO ADD PWR AND HE REDUCED IT, I WAS TOO LATE IN CORRECTING HIS ACTIONS. I SHOULD HAVE ADDED THE PWR MYSELF SOONER. THE DAMAGED FLAP HAS BEEN REPLACED.
