Narrative:

While sitting in the cockpit approximately 40 mins before our ewr arrival, I noticed a light on the flight engineer board illuminate. He noticed it as well and immediately told the captain. They began discussing the incident and I left the cockpit to attend to cabin duties. Within 10 mins the captain informed me that the light indicated a problem with the #2 engine. They shut down the engine and we would be diverting to iad as a safety precaution captain and I both informed the passenger. I informed the other flight attendants. We landed at iad within 30 mins without further incident.

Title: FLT ATTENDANT RPT REGARDING AN ENG SHUTDOWN ON A B727 AT CRUISE. THE FLT WAS DIVERTED TO IAD.

Narrative: WHILE SITTING IN THE COCKPIT APPROX 40 MINS BEFORE OUR EWR ARR, I NOTICED A LIGHT ON THE FE BOARD ILLUMINATE. HE NOTICED IT AS WELL AND IMMEDIATELY TOLD THE CAPT. THEY BEGAN DISCUSSING THE INCIDENT AND I LEFT THE COCKPIT TO ATTEND TO CABIN DUTIES. WITHIN 10 MINS THE CAPT INFORMED ME THAT THE LIGHT INDICATED A PROB WITH THE #2 ENG. THEY SHUT DOWN THE ENG AND WE WOULD BE DIVERTING TO IAD AS A SAFETY PRECAUTION CAPT AND I BOTH INFORMED THE PAX. I INFORMED THE OTHER FLT ATTENDANTS. WE LANDED AT IAD WITHIN 30 MINS WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
