Narrative:
...Captain called us...(3 dings) told us to stow cabin...our seats, we had to shut down an engine and were landing in elp. Landed without incident. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter said that the plane suddenly made a steep descent, and the galley supplies were sliding on the floor. About then, the captain made an announcement that they were shutting down the right engine and had to divert to land as soon as possible in el paso. The captain personally told the flight attendants that they didn't have time to prepare the cabin for an emergency landing, but to situation down right away. El paso had extremely high winds, but they still made a safe landing without incident. The fire trucks met the airplane. After a mega-delay, they eventually had a contracted maintenance service fix the airplane good enough to get to dfw, and then, the plane was taken OTS.
