Narrative:
Twin otter wbound on blue direct route in grand canyon sfar at 8500 ft, was overtaken from behind by a navajo airplane. The captain took controls from copilot to avoid midair collision. As the navajo passed, he then turned on his transponder and a TCASII warning occurred. He admitted his transponder was off. If the captain wouldn't have been talking to the copilot, looking out the right side window, a possible midair collision would have occurred.
