Narrative:

While briefing the departure, prior to taxi, the first officer read a turn to 290 degrees after the 2.3 DME on the ewr 6 SID. This was in error, the heading should be 220 degrees. The 290 degree heading applies to runway 4L and we were departing runway 22R. I did not verify this information from my own chart. After takeoff, we turned to the erroneous 290 degree heading and called departure. Departure control corrected our heading.

Title: MLG CREW TURNED TO THE WRONG HDG ON AN EWR SID.

Narrative: WHILE BRIEFING THE DEP, PRIOR TO TAXI, THE FO READ A TURN TO 290 DEGS AFTER THE 2.3 DME ON THE EWR 6 SID. THIS WAS IN ERROR, THE HDG SHOULD BE 220 DEGS. THE 290 DEG HDG APPLIES TO RWY 4L AND WE WERE DEPARTING RWY 22R. I DID NOT VERIFY THIS INFO FROM MY OWN CHART. AFTER TKOF, WE TURNED TO THE ERRONEOUS 290 DEG HDG AND CALLED DEP. DEP CTL CORRECTED OUR HDG.
