Narrative:
Vibration followed by strong burning odor in both cockpit and cabin. Declared emergency. Completed all checklists and landed safely at dia. Suggest a standard procedure so all parties (fire trucks, ATC, pilots) are all on same frequency while aircraft is being inspected by fire trucks. Tower requested we stay on tower frequency. Time was wasted as the tower relayed messages between us and the fire trucks. The decision to evacuate/evacuation (if fire trucks saw fire) would have taken longer than if we were on same frequency as trucks, ie, ground frequency. Everything was ok for us. No fire or smoke -- thank god! So we taxied to the gate. I was very happy with ATC, company, fire rescue and the whole procedure. The simulator training was priceless in this situation.

Title: AN ACR MLG EXPERIENCES VIBRATION, SMOKE AND FUMES WHILE IN CRUISE AND DECIDES ON A DIVERSION TO ALTERNATE. AFTER LNDG THE TWR CTLR REQUIRES THEM TO REMAIN ON THEIR FREQ RATHER THAN SWITCH TO GND CTL AND TALK DIRECTLY TO THE FIRE PERSONNEL.
Narrative: VIBRATION FOLLOWED BY STRONG BURNING ODOR IN BOTH COCKPIT AND CABIN. DECLARED EMER. COMPLETED ALL CHKLISTS AND LANDED SAFELY AT DIA. SUGGEST A STANDARD PROC SO ALL PARTIES (FIRE TRUCKS, ATC, PLTS) ARE ALL ON SAME FREQ WHILE ACFT IS BEING INSPECTED BY FIRE TRUCKS. TWR REQUESTED WE STAY ON TWR FREQ. TIME WAS WASTED AS THE TWR RELAYED MESSAGES BTWN US AND THE FIRE TRUCKS. THE DECISION TO EVAC (IF FIRE TRUCKS SAW FIRE) WOULD HAVE TAKEN LONGER THAN IF WE WERE ON SAME FREQ AS TRUCKS, IE, GND FREQ. EVERYTHING WAS OK FOR US. NO FIRE OR SMOKE -- THANK GOD! SO WE TAXIED TO THE GATE. I WAS VERY HAPPY WITH ATC, COMPANY, FIRE RESCUE AND THE WHOLE PROC. THE SIMULATOR TRAINING WAS PRICELESS IN THIS SIT.
