Narrative:
Cleared flight plan route via teb 4 departure. ATIS stated runway 19 for takeoff. After start, runway changed to runway 24. I took a cursory (careless?) check of the SID, announced the PF that limiting altitude was 3000 ft. New york departure quickly informed us of the error. Subsequent look at the SID showed us I had skipped a line, missed the 1500 ft limit until...crew coordination (CRM) fell apart. Should have had PF review SID and confirm departure headings and altitude. Had a 'come to jesus' meeting on CRM. We take great pride in a professional, conservative, safe operation. I am very distressed by this. After over 40 yrs as professional pilot we are fallible!
