Narrative:
Aircraft in descent into cid for landing. ZAU cleared us down to 11000 ft and handed us over to cedar rapids approach control. I thought he said 10000 ft. I checked in with the cedar rapids controller and said 'our of 15000 ft for 10000 ft.' the cid controller read back 10000 ft and we continued to descend. At 10400 ft, cid called us and said we were supposed to stop at 11000 ft. We acknowledged and climbed back to 11000 ft. No other aircraft were involved. Upon landing, the tower had us call them on the phone and said we broke our altitude and were in violation. The tower should have caught the error.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CPR SMT ACFT MISHEARS THEIR DSCNT CLRNC AS 10000 FT VERSUS ISSUED ALT OF 11000 FT. CTR MISSES THE READBACK. CHKING IN WITH APCH, FLC READS DSCNT TO 10000 FT AND THIS CTLR MISSES THE NUMBER AS WELL. REACHING 10400 FT, APCH INDICATES THE CLRNC WAS TO 11000 FT. THEY CLB TO 11000 FT.
Narrative: ACFT IN DSCNT INTO CID FOR LNDG. ZAU CLRED US DOWN TO 11000 FT AND HANDED US OVER TO CEDAR RAPIDS APCH CTL. I THOUGHT HE SAID 10000 FT. I CHKED IN WITH THE CEDAR RAPIDS CTLR AND SAID 'OUR OF 15000 FT FOR 10000 FT.' THE CID CTLR READ BACK 10000 FT AND WE CONTINUED TO DSND. AT 10400 FT, CID CALLED US AND SAID WE WERE SUPPOSED TO STOP AT 11000 FT. WE ACKNOWLEDGED AND CLBED BACK TO 11000 FT. NO OTHER ACFT WERE INVOLVED. UPON LNDG, THE TWR HAD US CALL THEM ON THE PHONE AND SAID WE BROKE OUR ALT AND WERE IN VIOLATION. THE TWR SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT THE ERROR.
