Narrative:
Diversion of attention, did not reset altimeter to 29.92 passing FL180. Concerned with reports of severe turbulence at destination reported to us on company frequency. Spent too much time gathering information from company, checking all charts (approach, hi/low) and pubs pertaining to severe turbulence. We made the 1000 ft call FL280 for FL290. ZSE said we were showing FL296, not FL290. Descended immediately to FL290, resetting altimeters on the way down.
