Narrative:
Regional controller (TRACON) was referring to aircraft by their number only, neglecting their call sign (air carrier XXX became 'XXX'). This was not an isolated case but continued for the duration of our time on the frequency. This is a poor procedure, as air carrier pilots are used to listening for their call sign, especially in the busy approach and landing phase, when a missed call can be particularly hazardous.
