Narrative:
Strong crosswind departing runway 35L at dfw. I briefed takeoff procedures and that I would advance #2 engine to 80% N2 as I took the runway to improve compressor stall margin. Cleared for takeoff. Just as takeoff roll started #2 compressor stalled. I immediately reduced power to idle and told the first officer to inform the tower that we needed to clear the runway. Tower rogered and cleared us off at the first left turn. Speed was never above taxi. After clearing the runway we confirmed that there had been no abnormal engine indications. I made a PA to the passenger then we completed the B727 manual section 20 abnormal for compressor stall/takeoff. After a runup of #2 engine, we proceeded to make a normal takeoff without compressor stall. As we initially cleared the runway, tower asked if we needed any assistance. We told them negative.

Title: A STRONG XWIND CAUSED A B727 #2 ENG TO HAVE A COMPRESSOR STALL ON TKOF FROM DFW.
Narrative: STRONG XWIND DEPARTING RWY 35L AT DFW. I BRIEFED TKOF PROCS AND THAT I WOULD ADVANCE #2 ENG TO 80% N2 AS I TOOK THE RWY TO IMPROVE COMPRESSOR STALL MARGIN. CLRED FOR TKOF. JUST AS TKOF ROLL STARTED #2 COMPRESSOR STALLED. I IMMEDIATELY REDUCED PWR TO IDLE AND TOLD THE FO TO INFORM THE TWR THAT WE NEEDED TO CLR THE RWY. TWR ROGERED AND CLRED US OFF AT THE FIRST L TURN. SPD WAS NEVER ABOVE TAXI. AFTER CLRING THE RWY WE CONFIRMED THAT THERE HAD BEEN NO ABNORMAL ENG INDICATIONS. I MADE A PA TO THE PAX THEN WE COMPLETED THE B727 MANUAL SECTION 20 ABNORMAL FOR COMPRESSOR STALL/TKOF. AFTER A RUNUP OF #2 ENG, WE PROCEEDED TO MAKE A NORMAL TKOF WITHOUT COMPRESSOR STALL. AS WE INITIALLY CLRED THE RWY, TWR ASKED IF WE NEEDED ANY ASSISTANCE. WE TOLD THEM NEGATIVE.
