Narrative:
We were given a crossing restr to descend and maintain 10000 ft, 55 mi southwest of ghm VOR. Our altitude had been approximately FL200. We typed in the restr on the FMC/CDU. The descent point had already passed and gave us distance to the next waypoint. We mistakenly interrupted our descent point and thus failed to meet the clearance. Problem discovered when center asked us when we were going to start down. Lesson learned: back up computer information with raw data.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR FLC FLYING B737 NEAR GHM FAILED TO MEET THE XING RESTR AS INSTRUCTED BY ATC.
Narrative: WE WERE GIVEN A XING RESTR TO DSND AND MAINTAIN 10000 FT, 55 MI SW OF GHM VOR. OUR ALT HAD BEEN APPROX FL200. WE TYPED IN THE RESTR ON THE FMC/CDU. THE DSCNT POINT HAD ALREADY PASSED AND GAVE US DISTANCE TO THE NEXT WAYPOINT. WE MISTAKENLY INTERRUPTED OUR DSCNT POINT AND THUS FAILED TO MEET THE CLRNC. PROB DISCOVERED WHEN CTR ASKED US WHEN WE WERE GOING TO START DOWN. LESSON LEARNED: BACK UP COMPUTER INFO WITH RAW DATA.
