Narrative:
After rotation, landing gear handle jammed 1/2 way up. We recycled the gear, main gear retracted, nosewheel did not. Consequently, the airplane wouldn't pressurize, autothrottles wouldn't engage and the confign warning was sounding. We continued the climb into IMC, flew the departure at 200 KTS, and notified departure of the problem. We raised the flaps but left the slats extended. I asked for a holding pattern at sfo at 9000 ft (VMC) and the first officer read the checklist for the abnormality. We then talked to our dispatch, the flight crew, and the passenger (25 on board) then diverted to sjc. After an ILS approach, gentle landing and ginger taxi, we parked and deplaned. Current speculation is the nosewheel was damaged during an overnight repos the night before. All pushbacks that day (2 of them) felt normal as did taxi characteristics.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR ACFT DIVERTS TO SJC FROM SFO WHEN IT IS UNABLE TO RETRACT ITS NOSE GEAR AFTER TKOF.
Narrative: AFTER ROTATION, LNDG GEAR HANDLE JAMMED 1/2 WAY UP. WE RECYCLED THE GEAR, MAIN GEAR RETRACTED, NOSEWHEEL DID NOT. CONSEQUENTLY, THE AIRPLANE WOULDN'T PRESSURIZE, AUTOTHROTTLES WOULDN'T ENGAGE AND THE CONFIGN WARNING WAS SOUNDING. WE CONTINUED THE CLB INTO IMC, FLEW THE DEP AT 200 KTS, AND NOTIFIED DEP OF THE PROB. WE RAISED THE FLAPS BUT LEFT THE SLATS EXTENDED. I ASKED FOR A HOLDING PATTERN AT SFO AT 9000 FT (VMC) AND THE FO READ THE CHKLIST FOR THE ABNORMALITY. WE THEN TALKED TO OUR DISPATCH, THE FLC, AND THE PAX (25 ON BOARD) THEN DIVERTED TO SJC. AFTER AN ILS APCH, GENTLE LNDG AND GINGER TAXI, WE PARKED AND DEPLANED. CURRENT SPECULATION IS THE NOSEWHEEL WAS DAMAGED DURING AN OVERNIGHT REPOS THE NIGHT BEFORE. ALL PUSHBACKS THAT DAY (2 OF THEM) FELT NORMAL AS DID TAXI CHARACTERISTICS.
