Narrative:

Flight barrow to anchorage. We were cleared for a visual approach to runway 14 and told to follow 11 O'clock position traffic. We assumed the traffic was to fly a left base to final for runway 14. Approach informed us we had 6 mi separation. We proceeded assuming no delay. At 8 mi out we spotted traffic at our 2 O'clock position. We followed tower instruction to turn right to 350 degree heading. We should have been more aware of the intended flight path of our traffic. We should have visually verified it. Tower and approach should have informed us of our traffic's intended flight path.
