Narrative:

Normal takeoff and initial climb. At approximately 12000 ft to 15000 ft the 'master caution' light came on with the 'fire detector loop' annunciator. Initially there was no 'loop a' or 'loop B' light. While scanning the abnormal procedure, the left engine 'loop B' light blinked on and off. The emergency procedure for 'loop B illuminated' was initiated. During this procedure the left engine fire aural and visual warning came on. The engine was shut down in accordance with the checklist. Emergency was declared and we proceeded to miami for an uneventful landing. Overweight landing was noted in log all controls and switches were left in post-emergency position per maintenance instructions.

Title: MD80 FLC DIVERTS TO MIA WITH L ENG SHUT DOWN AFTER FIRE WARNING.

Narrative: NORMAL TKOF AND INITIAL CLB. AT APPROX 12000 FT TO 15000 FT THE 'MASTER CAUTION' LIGHT CAME ON WITH THE 'FIRE DETECTOR LOOP' ANNUNCIATOR. INITIALLY THERE WAS NO 'LOOP A' OR 'LOOP B' LIGHT. WHILE SCANNING THE ABNORMAL PROC, THE L ENG 'LOOP B' LIGHT BLINKED ON AND OFF. THE EMER PROC FOR 'LOOP B ILLUMINATED' WAS INITIATED. DURING THIS PROC THE L ENG FIRE AURAL AND VISUAL WARNING CAME ON. THE ENG WAS SHUT DOWN IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CHKLIST. EMER WAS DECLARED AND WE PROCEEDED TO MIAMI FOR AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG. OVERWT LNDG WAS NOTED IN LOG ALL CTLS AND SWITCHES WERE LEFT IN POST-EMER POS PER MAINT INSTRUCTIONS.
