Narrative:
On jun/xa/99, I was flying bonanza about 30 mi south of the south into will rogers world when I contacted okc approach/departure control on 126.65. Approach requested my intentions and replied, (in the context) 'will rogers full stop.' approach gave me a 350 degree heading. Later I believe approach gave me another heading of 360 degrees. At this point in time about nne position to will rogers runway 17R. About this time approach asked if I saw wiley post. At this point in time I realized this approach was sending me to a different airport than I wanted to land. I asked approach to redirect me to will rogers. I believe approach gave me a heading of 120 degrees to runway 13. I asked if it was runway 13R or runway 13L and I was on a 120 degree heading. Approach informed me that it was only one runway 13 and a 220 degree heading. Approach then gave me runway 17R to land. At this point in time I heard approach say, 'I hope he has it right!' I was on final, I did not hear approach pass me off to control tower 118.3. Further I had lost radio contact with approach. I dropped the landing gear later than usual. I landed without further communication with approach. At the FBO one of the attendants said that 'ground control was trying to communicate with you.' I told him that my radio had failed on final. When I went inside of the FBO, another attendant gave me a card with a telephone number of the tower and said 'the tower wants you to call them.' I explained that I had not heard approach hand me to the tower and I had lost all communication on the final approach. At our departure from will rogers world, which was about 2 hours later, I contacted ground control on 121.9 stating my location at FBO, and that I had ATIS. Ground control instructed me to taxi to runway 17R. There were 2 commercial jet planes taxiing ahead of me. When I arrived at runway 17R and tried to communicate with the control tower on 118.3 there was failure in radio transmission when I asked for permission to take off. There was no receiving of radio transmission. I had a handheld radio that tried to contact the control tower and there was no response. I then turned to the tower and it looked as if there was a green light on the left side of the tower. I commented to the passenger that it looks as if they are giving us the green light. I continued to circle to the left to confirm that there was no traffic on final approach. I then took off on runway 17R and continued to south departure. At some point south of chickasha, I decided to contact lawton approach for a radio check. The radio worked again and lawton approach advised me that okc tower wanted to talk to me and gave me their telephone number. I mentioned to lawton approach that I had radio failure. And lawton approach said they wanted me to call them when I arrived at my destination, which was a private strip at temple, ok. Upon my arrival at temple, I called okc and talked to one of the gentlemen in the tower. He informed me that I had violated rules in class D area by departing without permission. I explained the above to him and he said that they do not give lights unless it is prearranged and that I did not have a light. This is the reason that I am filing this NASA report. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that he has the aircraft in the radio shop for finding out the intermittent radio problem as he suspected that it may be caused by the audio amplifier box which, among other things, directs the audio to the speaker or headphones. He further stated that he has a total time of approximately 600 hours of flight time, 400 hours in the bonanza aircraft and 30 hours in the last 90 days prior to this incident. He stated that the ATC personnel were all helpful and understanding of his problem and attitude for safety.

Title: PLT OF A BEECH BONANZA TOOK OFF WITHOUT TWR CLRNC.
Narrative: ON JUN/XA/99, I WAS FLYING BONANZA ABOUT 30 MI S OF THE S INTO WILL ROGERS WORLD WHEN I CONTACTED OKC APCH/DEP CTL ON 126.65. APCH REQUESTED MY INTENTIONS AND REPLIED, (IN THE CONTEXT) 'WILL ROGERS FULL STOP.' APCH GAVE ME A 350 DEG HDG. LATER I BELIEVE APCH GAVE ME ANOTHER HDG OF 360 DEGS. AT THIS POINT IN TIME ABOUT NNE POS TO WILL ROGERS RWY 17R. ABOUT THIS TIME APCH ASKED IF I SAW WILEY POST. AT THIS POINT IN TIME I REALIZED THIS APCH WAS SENDING ME TO A DIFFERENT ARPT THAN I WANTED TO LAND. I ASKED APCH TO REDIRECT ME TO WILL ROGERS. I BELIEVE APCH GAVE ME A HDG OF 120 DEGS TO RWY 13. I ASKED IF IT WAS RWY 13R OR RWY 13L AND I WAS ON A 120 DEG HDG. APCH INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS ONLY ONE RWY 13 AND A 220 DEG HDG. APCH THEN GAVE ME RWY 17R TO LAND. AT THIS POINT IN TIME I HEARD APCH SAY, 'I HOPE HE HAS IT RIGHT!' I WAS ON FINAL, I DID NOT HEAR APCH PASS ME OFF TO CTL TWR 118.3. FURTHER I HAD LOST RADIO CONTACT WITH APCH. I DROPPED THE LNDG GEAR LATER THAN USUAL. I LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER COM WITH APCH. AT THE FBO ONE OF THE ATTENDANTS SAID THAT 'GND CTL WAS TRYING TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOU.' I TOLD HIM THAT MY RADIO HAD FAILED ON FINAL. WHEN I WENT INSIDE OF THE FBO, ANOTHER ATTENDANT GAVE ME A CARD WITH A TELEPHONE NUMBER OF THE TWR AND SAID 'THE TWR WANTS YOU TO CALL THEM.' I EXPLAINED THAT I HAD NOT HEARD APCH HAND ME TO THE TWR AND I HAD LOST ALL COM ON THE FINAL APCH. AT OUR DEP FROM WILL ROGERS WORLD, WHICH WAS ABOUT 2 HRS LATER, I CONTACTED GND CTL ON 121.9 STATING MY LOCATION AT FBO, AND THAT I HAD ATIS. GND CTL INSTRUCTED ME TO TAXI TO RWY 17R. THERE WERE 2 COMMERCIAL JET PLANES TAXIING AHEAD OF ME. WHEN I ARRIVED AT RWY 17R AND TRIED TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE CTL TWR ON 118.3 THERE WAS FAILURE IN RADIO XMISSION WHEN I ASKED FOR PERMISSION TO TAKE OFF. THERE WAS NO RECEIVING OF RADIO XMISSION. I HAD A HANDHELD RADIO THAT TRIED TO CONTACT THE CTL TWR AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. I THEN TURNED TO THE TWR AND IT LOOKED AS IF THERE WAS A GREEN LIGHT ON THE L SIDE OF THE TWR. I COMMENTED TO THE PAX THAT IT LOOKS AS IF THEY ARE GIVING US THE GREEN LIGHT. I CONTINUED TO CIRCLE TO THE L TO CONFIRM THAT THERE WAS NO TFC ON FINAL APCH. I THEN TOOK OFF ON RWY 17R AND CONTINUED TO S DEP. AT SOME POINT S OF CHICKASHA, I DECIDED TO CONTACT LAWTON APCH FOR A RADIO CHK. THE RADIO WORKED AGAIN AND LAWTON APCH ADVISED ME THAT OKC TWR WANTED TO TALK TO ME AND GAVE ME THEIR TELEPHONE NUMBER. I MENTIONED TO LAWTON APCH THAT I HAD RADIO FAILURE. AND LAWTON APCH SAID THEY WANTED ME TO CALL THEM WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY DEST, WHICH WAS A PVT STRIP AT TEMPLE, OK. UPON MY ARR AT TEMPLE, I CALLED OKC AND TALKED TO ONE OF THE GENTLEMEN IN THE TWR. THIS IS THE REASON THAT I AM FILING THIS NASA RPT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT HE HAS THE ACFT IN THE RADIO SHOP FOR FINDING OUT THE INTERMITTENT RADIO PROB AS HE SUSPECTED THAT IT MAY BE CAUSED BY THE AUDIO AMPLIFIER BOX WHICH, AMONG OTHER THINGS, DIRECTS THE AUDIO TO THE SPEAKER OR HEADPHONES. HE FURTHER STATED THAT HE HAS A TOTAL TIME OF APPROX 600 HRS OF FLT TIME, 400 HRS IN THE BONANZA ACFT AND 30 HRS IN THE LAST 90 DAYS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. HE STATED THAT THE ATC PERSONNEL WERE ALL HELPFUL AND UNDERSTANDING OF HIS PROB AND ATTITUDE FOR SAFETY.
