Narrative:
We were delayed in mia initially, because of a mechanical problem, which was resolved. On our ascent, the captain mentioned over the PA we would be returning to mia in 8 mins due to an overheated engine. He then called and asked us to come to the cockpit where he informed us an engine (#3) had overheated, and the problem was serious, however it would not be necessary to prepare for a planned emergency. At that point, we prepared the cabin for landing and took our jump seats. We landed without incident. We were all quite shook up from this. I think we all felt our vulnerability challenged.
