Narrative:
While waiting as #1 at hold line for runway 4 at lga, we were told by a tower controller to taxi into position and hold on runway 4. The next controller voice we heard asked us what we were doing there on the runway. We replied we were cleared onto the runway and hold. The controller said no, that the clearance was for air carrier Y. We did a 180 degree turn and taxied off onto taxiway to await the next clearance. The controller used our call number and aircraft type, so there was no confusion on our part. There was apparently a personnel/shift change at that time. I don't think there was enough of a briefing to the second controller before the change was made.

Title: FLC FOLLOWED CLRNC INTO POS AND HOLD. SECOND CTLR ADVISED CLRNC WAS NOT GIVEN.
Narrative: WHILE WAITING AS #1 AT HOLD LINE FOR RWY 4 AT LGA, WE WERE TOLD BY A TWR CTLR TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD ON RWY 4. THE NEXT CTLR VOICE WE HEARD ASKED US WHAT WE WERE DOING THERE ON THE RWY. WE REPLIED WE WERE CLRED ONTO THE RWY AND HOLD. THE CTLR SAID NO, THAT THE CLRNC WAS FOR ACR Y. WE DID A 180 DEG TURN AND TAXIED OFF ONTO TXWY TO AWAIT THE NEXT CLRNC. THE CTLR USED OUR CALL NUMBER AND ACFT TYPE, SO THERE WAS NO CONFUSION ON OUR PART. THERE WAS APPARENTLY A PERSONNEL/SHIFT CHANGE AT THAT TIME. I DON'T THINK THERE WAS ENOUGH OF A BRIEFING TO THE SECOND CTLR BEFORE THE CHANGE WAS MADE.
