Narrative:
We were parked closer than normal to terminal due to heavy rain. There is a passenger walkway covered by an awning. After a short ground delay we were reboarded and marshalled out. It was still heavy rain and I had limited space to turn. The aircraft's nosewheel steering was not responding well. The agent signaled me to stop which I did, since we were close to the awning. After stopping he then marshalled me forward. The aircraft was still not turning well to the right. I looked away to the right momentarily as I got the second stop signal, I put on the brakes and collided with the awning pole. The winglet on the tip was destroyed. I should not have let the agent park me so close and I should have backed the aircraft up before attempting such a tight turn.
