PA28 (X) cruising at 3000 ft from pvd to mvy. C402 (Y) climbing to 4000 ft from mvy to pvd. I observed the conflict and turned both aircraft to avoid the conflict, but lost minimum separation.

Narrative: PA28 (X) CRUISING AT 3000 FT FROM PVD TO MVY. C402 (Y) CLBING TO 4000 FT FROM MVY TO PVD. I OBSERVED THE CONFLICT AND TURNED BOTH ACFT TO AVOID THE CONFLICT, BUT LOST MINIMUM SEPARATION.
