Narrative:
RA. With lga approach control at 9000 ft, 250 KTS, heading 080 degrees, descending with a clearance to 4000 ft. Received a TA followed by an immediate turn to 010 degrees by approach control. An RA ensued with a descending resolution. Rolled in 35-40 degrees of left bank and increased descent to comply with RA. Approach control called aircraft clear at 3 O'clock and 3 mi. Approach control called a climb for us to avoid the traffic but when he saw us descending he reversed himself and told us to continue to 4000 ft. We indicated to him that the RA was for us to descend. WX was marginally VFR at best with thunderstorms crowding the west side of the minks arrival from yardley on in to proud. Cannot imagine a VFR aircraft transiting the area in those conditions.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MD80 CREW HAD TCASII RA IN N90 CLASS E AIRSPACE.
Narrative: RA. WITH LGA APCH CTL AT 9000 FT, 250 KTS, HDG 080 DEGS, DSNDING WITH A CLRNC TO 4000 FT. RECEIVED A TA FOLLOWED BY AN IMMEDIATE TURN TO 010 DEGS BY APCH CTL. AN RA ENSUED WITH A DSNDING RESOLUTION. ROLLED IN 35-40 DEGS OF L BANK AND INCREASED DSCNT TO COMPLY WITH RA. APCH CTL CALLED ACFT CLR AT 3 O'CLOCK AND 3 MI. APCH CTL CALLED A CLB FOR US TO AVOID THE TFC BUT WHEN HE SAW US DSNDING HE REVERSED HIMSELF AND TOLD US TO CONTINUE TO 4000 FT. WE INDICATED TO HIM THAT THE RA WAS FOR US TO DSND. WX WAS MARGINALLY VFR AT BEST WITH TSTMS CROWDING THE W SIDE OF THE MINKS ARR FROM YARDLEY ON IN TO PROUD. CANNOT IMAGINE A VFR ACFT TRANSITING THE AREA IN THOSE CONDITIONS.
