Narrative:
Emergency -- smoke in cabin on departure. While departing bur at 2500 ft AGL, the flight attendants reported electrical smoke in the cabin. We noticed smoke/haze in the cockpit. We declared an emergency and diverted to lax. We landed overweight at 130700 pounds. The landing was very smooth and uneventful. After a quick check with the flight attendants we learned that the smoke had dissipated and an evacuate/evacuation was not required. We taxied to the gate and deplaned the aircraft as quickly as practicable.
