Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that the smoke was quite thick, so the captain made an immediate announcement to return to mexico city. The passenger did start to panic. The crew did not prepare for an emergency landing, and fire trucks did meet the airplane. They never discovered the source of the smoke.
