Narrative:
On descent, cleared to 6000 ft. Captain set 6000 ft in alerter. I read back '6000 ft.' going through 7000 ft, we were told to climb back to 8000 ft. Approach asked us to call them on telephone. Tape showed we had been cleared to 8000 ft. Also showed we read back 6000 ft. Controller was decertified. This happened at the end of a long day (13 hour).
