Narrative:
Radar vectored off heatt arrival to the cypress arrival due to WX. Given heading 270 degrees for traffic, which turned out to be the jump plane, at 11 O'clock and 13500 ft. The jump plane reported us in sight and released his jumpers. We sighted the jump plane at that time. TCASII alerted us with an RA to descend. As we began to comply with the RA more jumpers were released causing the need for an immediate right turn to avoid jumpers. We passed below the jump plane and right of jumpers. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated this is the first time he has had jumpers exit a jump aircraft when he has been below one. Reporter indicated he wasn't sure if the controller vectored for traffic was for other unknown IMC traffic since he had the jump aircraft in sight. Reporter stated an awareness to the jump area and thought the jump aircraft was a DHC6. Reporter had called the facility and talked with the supervisor who was going to listen to the tape and get back to the reporter. Reporter has heard nothing from the facility supervisor.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RPTR'S ACFT HAD TO MAKE AN EVASIVE TURN TO AVOID SKYDIVERS JUMPING FROM AN ALT 500 FT ABOVE THEIR ALT. THE JUMP ACFT HAD SIGHTED THE RPTR'S DHC8 BEFORE THE DIVERS LEFT THE ACFT. RPTR RECEIVED A TCASII RA TO DSND PRIOR TO JUMPERS AWAY AND STARTED TO COMPLY WHEN THE JUMPERS WERE OBSERVED. THE CTR CTLR HAD ISSUED A VECTOR FOR TFC, THE JUMP ACFT.
Narrative: RADAR VECTORED OFF HEATT ARR TO THE CYPRESS ARR DUE TO WX. GIVEN HDG 270 DEGS FOR TFC, WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE THE JUMP PLANE, AT 11 O'CLOCK AND 13500 FT. THE JUMP PLANE RPTED US IN SIGHT AND RELEASED HIS JUMPERS. WE SIGHTED THE JUMP PLANE AT THAT TIME. TCASII ALERTED US WITH AN RA TO DSND. AS WE BEGAN TO COMPLY WITH THE RA MORE JUMPERS WERE RELEASED CAUSING THE NEED FOR AN IMMEDIATE R TURN TO AVOID JUMPERS. WE PASSED BELOW THE JUMP PLANE AND R OF JUMPERS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THIS IS THE FIRST TIME HE HAS HAD JUMPERS EXIT A JUMP ACFT WHEN HE HAS BEEN BELOW ONE. RPTR INDICATED HE WASN'T SURE IF THE CTLR VECTORED FOR TFC WAS FOR OTHER UNKNOWN IMC TFC SINCE HE HAD THE JUMP ACFT IN SIGHT. RPTR STATED AN AWARENESS TO THE JUMP AREA AND THOUGHT THE JUMP ACFT WAS A DHC6. RPTR HAD CALLED THE FACILITY AND TALKED WITH THE SUPVR WHO WAS GOING TO LISTEN TO THE TAPE AND GET BACK TO THE RPTR. RPTR HAS HEARD NOTHING FROM THE FACILITY SUPVR.
