Narrative:
The problem arose when I was unable to provide my flight instructor and pilot certificates upon the request of an FAA inspector. I was providing instruction in a fresca 242 flight training device at the time. Contributing factors may have been the remote location of the ftd's from instructor's offices. The other contributing factor was my own irresponsibility during preparation for the lesson. I simply forgot to grab my certificates when collecting materials for the lesson. In order to prevent any recurrence of this event, I will now carry on my person at all times a new certificate holder. The new holder is more compact and will be easily transported. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that he was concerned about being in violation of the FARS for not having the certificates in his possession. However, the inspector was trying to determine if the FAA approved school training course was being followed and if the instructor met the approved instructor qualifications. It would have helped that determination if the reporter had the certificates in his possession.

Title: FLT INSTRUCTOR GIVING LESSON TO A MULTI ENG TRAINEE IN AN APPROVED GND SIMULATOR COURSE DID NOT HAVE HIS APPROPRIATE PLT INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATE IN HIS POSSESSION WHEN REQUESTED BY AN FAA INSPECTOR.
Narrative: THE PROB AROSE WHEN I WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE MY FLT INSTRUCTOR AND PLT CERTIFICATES UPON THE REQUEST OF AN FAA INSPECTOR. I WAS PROVIDING INSTRUCTION IN A FRESCA 242 FLT TRAINING DEVICE AT THE TIME. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT HE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT BEING IN VIOLATION OF THE FARS FOR NOT HAVING THE CERTIFICATES IN HIS POSSESSION. HOWEVER, THE INSPECTOR WAS TRYING TO DETERMINE IF THE FAA APPROVED SCHOOL TRAINING COURSE WAS BEING FOLLOWED AND IF THE INSTRUCTOR MET THE APPROVED INSTRUCTOR QUALIFICATIONS. IT WOULD HAVE HELPED THAT DETERMINATION IF THE RPTR HAD THE CERTIFICATES IN HIS POSSESSION.
