Air Traffic Incident | Operational Error |
Narrative:
Deviated from ATC clearance to comply with TCASII RA. ZAU gave us a turn off course to the right for descent and instructed us to descend from FL330 to FL270. A short time later, center instructed us to turn left 'tight turn' heading 060 degrees. A bank angle of 30 degrees was selected on the MCP and the turn initiated. While in the turn and descending, an RA alert was received, followed by instructions to climb. The autoplt was disconnected, ATC notified that we were climbing to comply with the RA, and a climb was initiated to an altitude of FL328 where the traffic was noticed passing 1900 ft below us. At the point when the descent was stopped and the climb initiated, the traffic was 800 ft below us.

Title: ARTCC CTLR AT ZAU INSTRUCTED ACR AT FL330 TO TURN R AND DSND, THEN GAVE A TIGHT TURN L. FLC RECEIVED TCASII RA TO CLB.
Narrative: DEVIATED FROM ATC CLRNC TO COMPLY WITH TCASII RA. ZAU GAVE US A TURN OFF COURSE TO THE R FOR DSCNT AND INSTRUCTED US TO DSND FROM FL330 TO FL270. A SHORT TIME LATER, CTR INSTRUCTED US TO TURN L 'TIGHT TURN' HDG 060 DEGS. A BANK ANGLE OF 30 DEGS WAS SELECTED ON THE MCP AND THE TURN INITIATED. WHILE IN THE TURN AND DSNDING, AN RA ALERT WAS RECEIVED, FOLLOWED BY INSTRUCTIONS TO CLB. THE AUTOPLT WAS DISCONNECTED, ATC NOTIFIED THAT WE WERE CLBING TO COMPLY WITH THE RA, AND A CLB WAS INITIATED TO AN ALT OF FL328 WHERE THE TFC WAS NOTICED PASSING 1900 FT BELOW US. AT THE POINT WHEN THE DSCNT WAS STOPPED AND THE CLB INITIATED, THE TFC WAS 800 FT BELOW US.
