Narrative:

During takeoff from sav, passing 3000 ft, the engine #3 'low oil pressure or filter bypass' light illuminated with engine thrust set to climb power. The climb was stopped at 3000 ft (cleared to 10000 ft) and while the flight manual was being consulted, the light went out. The climb was continued and at approximately 10000 ft, the same light illuminated again and climb was stopped at 10000 ft. As per B727 flight manual, engine #3 was shut down and ATC and company was advised. A decision was made to divert to atl due to rain/wind along the general east coast area. At top of descent into atl, an emergency was declared with no priority handling, special assistance or emergency vehicles needed. The approach and landing at atl was uneventful.
