Narrative:
While taxiing east on taxiway north to runway 8L for takeoff, we thought we might have struck a taxi light on the southwest side of taxiway north where the taxiway jogs southward at taxiway F/K. We returned to the gate to have maintenance check for damage (none) and asked ground control to inspect the area. They found a damaged taxi light and said they would have it repaired. 1) the green taxiway centerline lights were brightly illuminated along taxiway north. They stopped 90 degrees through the turn at taxiway F/K leading south. I think this confign was to help aircraft landing on runway 26 to exit the runway at taxiway K and taxi west on taxiway north in reduced visibility. 2) the painted centerline on taxiway north, east of taxiway F/K, seemed to be faded or non existent. 3) the 'no taxi' island at taxiway F/K off of gate X adds confusion to the area. 4) I don't know what intensity the blue taxiway edge lights were on, but the blue lights were much more difficult to see than the brighter green lights leading into this area.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CAPT OF A B737 RAN OVER A TXWY LIGHT DURING TAXI FOR TKOF CAUSING NO DAMAGE TO THE ACFT, BUT SOME TO THE TXWY LIGHT.
Narrative: WHILE TAXIING E ON TXWY N TO RWY 8L FOR TKOF, WE THOUGHT WE MIGHT HAVE STRUCK A TAXI LIGHT ON THE SW SIDE OF TXWY N WHERE THE TXWY JOGS SOUTHWARD AT TXWY F/K. WE RETURNED TO THE GATE TO HAVE MAINT CHK FOR DAMAGE (NONE) AND ASKED GND CTL TO INSPECT THE AREA. THEY FOUND A DAMAGED TAXI LIGHT AND SAID THEY WOULD HAVE IT REPAIRED. 1) THE GREEN TXWY CTRLINE LIGHTS WERE BRIGHTLY ILLUMINATED ALONG TXWY N. THEY STOPPED 90 DEGS THROUGH THE TURN AT TXWY F/K LEADING S. I THINK THIS CONFIGN WAS TO HELP ACFT LNDG ON RWY 26 TO EXIT THE RWY AT TXWY K AND TAXI W ON TXWY N IN REDUCED VISIBILITY. 2) THE PAINTED CTRLINE ON TXWY N, E OF TXWY F/K, SEEMED TO BE FADED OR NON EXISTENT. 3) THE 'NO TAXI' ISLAND AT TXWY F/K OFF OF GATE X ADDS CONFUSION TO THE AREA. 4) I DON'T KNOW WHAT INTENSITY THE BLUE TXWY EDGE LIGHTS WERE ON, BUT THE BLUE LIGHTS WERE MUCH MORE DIFFICULT TO SEE THAN THE BRIGHTER GREEN LIGHTS LEADING INTO THIS AREA.
