Narrative:
Flight had originated london-gatwick (egkk) international airport for cincinnati (cvg). At the time of the incident I was the relief pilot (rp) and was not in a control seat, but was conducting after takeoff duties in the relief pilot seat. As we flew the LAM4M departure (modified by radar vectors), one of the london control agencies gave us a frequency change. The captain (PNF) changed frequencys as directed, whereupon the controller inquired about our position. The captain stated that we were on the LAM4M from lgw. The controller issued a different frequency. The captain made the frequency change, as instructed, and the departure was continued. I cannot remember our assigned altitude during this frequency (sector) mismatch, but I believe the assigned altitude was FL130. Most puzzling was the way that we were informed of this frequency change 'mismatch.' as a crew we actually thought very little or nothing of the situation, until london control mentioned that there had been an irregularity on our departure and we were to contact one of their supervisors by telephone.

Title: B777 CREW WAS ADVISED OF AN IRREGULARITY ON THE LAM4M DEP AT EGKK.
Narrative: FLT HAD ORIGINATED LONDON-GATWICK (EGKK) INTL ARPT FOR CINCINNATI (CVG). AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT I WAS THE RELIEF PLT (RP) AND WAS NOT IN A CTL SEAT, BUT WAS CONDUCTING AFTER TKOF DUTIES IN THE RELIEF PLT SEAT. AS WE FLEW THE LAM4M DEP (MODIFIED BY RADAR VECTORS), ONE OF THE LONDON CTL AGENCIES GAVE US A FREQ CHANGE. THE CAPT (PNF) CHANGED FREQS AS DIRECTED, WHEREUPON THE CTLR INQUIRED ABOUT OUR POS. THE CAPT STATED THAT WE WERE ON THE LAM4M FROM LGW. THE CTLR ISSUED A DIFFERENT FREQ. THE CAPT MADE THE FREQ CHANGE, AS INSTRUCTED, AND THE DEP WAS CONTINUED. I CANNOT REMEMBER OUR ASSIGNED ALT DURING THIS FREQ (SECTOR) MISMATCH, BUT I BELIEVE THE ASSIGNED ALT WAS FL130. MOST PUZZLING WAS THE WAY THAT WE WERE INFORMED OF THIS FREQ CHANGE 'MISMATCH.' AS A CREW WE ACTUALLY THOUGHT VERY LITTLE OR NOTHING OF THE SIT, UNTIL LONDON CTL MENTIONED THAT THERE HAD BEEN AN IRREGULARITY ON OUR DEP AND WE WERE TO CONTACT ONE OF THEIR SUPVRS BY TELEPHONE.
