Narrative:

While en route to hwo at 1000 ft approximately 3 mi east of airport, the engine sputtered then stopped. I went through emergency engine failure procedures but could not get engine to restart. I visually had fuel available so I believe the problem to be with the magnetos or carburetor system. I made a landing on a golf course after establishing a glide speed that would give me the most time to land safety. I was not injured and no one on the ground was near me. The aircraft had minimal damage to the carburetor box and alternator.
