Narrative:

ATC facility: pty tower. Location: pty. My captain already submitted the official report but I had some observations which might be noted. We ingested a large bird (buzzard) after gear retraction approximately 100 ft AGL which was ingested by the left engine. I was flying, made the right 210 degree turn at 535 ft MSL then we decided to maintain VFR, do a large right bomber pattern and stay VFR. After declaring an emergency on downwind, we landed without event, 5-10 mins later. I was impressed that the crash crews were fully assembled and standing by abeam the runway. Pty tower was on the ball and very helpful. On rollout, 110 KTS, 2 more birds resting on runway centerline took flight where we took out another bird with apparently the outside of the left engine cowl. Remains were found on runway. In debrief with tower manager after the incident, he said 2 airlines had bird strikes the previous weeks. The B727 I deadheaded out on the next day also had one on landing. It seems to me we need to push for some type of noise makers at pty to get rid of the bird problem. They like to situation on the runway. 3 trips ago I almost hit one 2 seconds after V2. How can the bird threat be reduced. The alarming number of incidents deserves immediate attention.

Title: A B737 FO RPT ON MULTIPLE BIRD STRIKES, ONE ON TKOF AND ONE ON LNDG DURING THE RETURN LAND AT MPTO, FO.

Narrative: ATC FACILITY: PTY TWR. LOCATION: PTY. MY CAPT ALREADY SUBMITTED THE OFFICIAL RPT BUT I HAD SOME OBSERVATIONS WHICH MIGHT BE NOTED. WE INGESTED A LARGE BIRD (BUZZARD) AFTER GEAR RETRACTION APPROX 100 FT AGL WHICH WAS INGESTED BY THE L ENG. I WAS FLYING, MADE THE R 210 DEG TURN AT 535 FT MSL THEN WE DECIDED TO MAINTAIN VFR, DO A LARGE R BOMBER PATTERN AND STAY VFR. AFTER DECLARING AN EMER ON DOWNWIND, WE LANDED WITHOUT EVENT, 5-10 MINS LATER. I WAS IMPRESSED THAT THE CRASH CREWS WERE FULLY ASSEMBLED AND STANDING BY ABEAM THE RWY. PTY TWR WAS ON THE BALL AND VERY HELPFUL. ON ROLLOUT, 110 KTS, 2 MORE BIRDS RESTING ON RWY CTRLINE TOOK FLT WHERE WE TOOK OUT ANOTHER BIRD WITH APPARENTLY THE OUTSIDE OF THE L ENG COWL. REMAINS WERE FOUND ON RWY. IN DEBRIEF WITH TWR MGR AFTER THE INCIDENT, HE SAID 2 AIRLINES HAD BIRD STRIKES THE PREVIOUS WKS. THE B727 I DEADHEADED OUT ON THE NEXT DAY ALSO HAD ONE ON LNDG. IT SEEMS TO ME WE NEED TO PUSH FOR SOME TYPE OF NOISE MAKERS AT PTY TO GET RID OF THE BIRD PROB. THEY LIKE TO SIT ON THE RWY. 3 TRIPS AGO I ALMOST HIT ONE 2 SECONDS AFTER V2. HOW CAN THE BIRD THREAT BE REDUCED. THE ALARMING NUMBER OF INCIDENTS DESERVES IMMEDIATE ATTN.
