Narrative:
On visual approach to dekalb-peachtree in atlanta, GA, I was given king air traffic to follow to airport. While preparing airplane for landing, visual contact of king air was lost. Because that aircraft was faster than I and because I was close to airport and ATC was busy I continued to airport, now in sight. As I approached airport I was confused as to the runway I was looking at and overshot the inbound course (runway 20L) until I neared the approach of the next runway (16) and realized my mistake. At this point the tower gave me an immediate 180 degree turn and I requested a right base to runway 20L (my assigned runway). Landing was uneventful. This was a case of loss of situational awareness. My mistake was in not calling ATC as soon as the king air contact was lost. ATC could have improved this situation by giving me a heading to intercept the ILS runway 20L instead of traffic to follow.

Title: PLT OF A PIPER PA31, NAVAJO, OVERSHOT FINAL TURN RESULTING IN XING THE FINAL COURSE OF AN ADJACENT PARALLEL RWY AND ANOTHER CROSS RWY.
Narrative: ON VISUAL APCH TO DEKALB-PEACHTREE IN ATLANTA, GA, I WAS GIVEN KING AIR TFC TO FOLLOW TO ARPT. WHILE PREPARING AIRPLANE FOR LNDG, VISUAL CONTACT OF KING AIR WAS LOST. BECAUSE THAT ACFT WAS FASTER THAN I AND BECAUSE I WAS CLOSE TO ARPT AND ATC WAS BUSY I CONTINUED TO ARPT, NOW IN SIGHT. AS I APCHED ARPT I WAS CONFUSED AS TO THE RWY I WAS LOOKING AT AND OVERSHOT THE INBOUND COURSE (RWY 20L) UNTIL I NEARED THE APCH OF THE NEXT RWY (16) AND REALIZED MY MISTAKE. AT THIS POINT THE TWR GAVE ME AN IMMEDIATE 180 DEG TURN AND I REQUESTED A R BASE TO RWY 20L (MY ASSIGNED RWY). LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL. THIS WAS A CASE OF LOSS OF SITUATIONAL AWARENESS. MY MISTAKE WAS IN NOT CALLING ATC AS SOON AS THE KING AIR CONTACT WAS LOST. ATC COULD HAVE IMPROVED THIS SIT BY GIVING ME A HEADING TO INTERCEPT THE ILS RWY 20L INSTEAD OF TFC TO FOLLOW.
